Advancing Data-Driven Decision Making in City Government
San Jose’s Smart City Vision calls for the use of innovative technology to improve operations and delivery of services. As part of this initiative, the city wants data to be the building block of all its digital projects, empowering staff to make data-driven decisions. Some departments already have integrated strong data practices, but a comprehensive strategy that guides metrics and performance is needed.
To support this work, FUSE executive fellow Srini Uppuluri is developing a citywide data strategy. Srini is assessing the current data infrastructure and resources, determining potential obstacles to adopting data-driven practices, and recommending new processes and technology. Additionally, he is helping build momentum for the project by communicating how data can transform the delivery of services.
