Communicating Health Services

The  L.A. County Department of Health Services (DHS) has long been the go-to health system for uninsured and low-income patients. But with more people in California now insured under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and the state’s expansion of Medicaid, DHS is increasingly in competition with other hospitals to retain and attract patients.

FUSE executive fellow Michelle LeBlanc will build an internal strategic marketing function that raises awareness of the scope and quality of DHS’s healthcare offerings. As part of this initiative, she will undertake a rebranding effort, develop strategies to improve marketing and communications, and help implement them. Ultimately, DHS hopes to expand the impact of its services by communicating more effectively with existing and prospective patients.
