Establishing Citywide Gateways To Citizenship
Los Angeles has one of the largest immigrant populations in the country and estimates that 800,000 individuals are eligible for citizenship, but may not be pursuing that status because of inherent barriers in the systems. The Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) recently launched a variety of programs to help immigrants begin the process of becoming citizens at all of its 73 branch locations. LAPL hired Alex to coordinate efforts across branches as well as with the appropriate federal, state, and local immigration and citizenship agencies. This project helped ensure that more potential citizens are aware of their opportunities and that LAPL serves as a trusted resource for those pursuing the process.
