Promoting Development Through Improved Building Services
Oakland is experiencing an unprecedented construction boom. But as the city continues to grow, its Planning and Building Department department is challenged with keeping up with approving new projects, assuring the safety of all buildings, and ensuring that low-income residents have secured housing.
To help the department adapt, FUSE executive fellow Timothy Guess will focus on improving its processes and operations by assessing current practices, identifying gaps in services, recommending ways to improve operations, and ultimately develop a plan for implementing them. He will also help improve data management, making it more accessible to staff. Oakland’s goal is to provide more reliable, seamless, and timely services to those seeking to build in the city while maintaining the overall character of its communities and culture.
