Providing Residents With Skills to Secure High-Quality Jobs
The City of Stockton is working aggressively to ensure that its workforce is equipped for the digital economy of the future. FUSE executive fellow Ann Rogan worked with the Mayor’s Office to lay the groundwork through initiatives that provide residents with the skills to secure sustainable employment.
Ann led the coalition responsible for crafting Stockton’s Workforce Development Action Plan in partnership with key university and workforce stakeholders. To inform future workforce investments, Ann launched and recruited membership for the Mayor’s Skills Taskforce, designed to act as the testbed and innovation arm of Stockton’s workforce initiatives. She introduced several pilot programs focused on new modes of skill development for residents. To build internal capacity and encourage interagency collaboration, she brokered key strategic partnerships for the city, including a nascent collaboration between Amazon and the San Joaquin County Housing Authority. With the support of key outside partners, her work has helped articulate a vision for how Stockton can position itself for the future, particularly in how to align the city’s workforce needs with Stockton’s Opportunity Zone designations.
